iPad 2 Announcement Not Far Away Following iPad Shortages and Price Drops

iPad 2 Release date close following shortages and price drops

If history is any indicator then an iPad 2 announcements and release should not be too far away. With most apple product refreshes in the past there has been product shortages, similar to what is being seen at present with the iPad, so most pendants are saying expect an announcement around March 2011.

So what new features & specs are rumoured to be found in the iPad 2? Most industry analysists are predicting the following features and specifications:

  • Dual cameras forward & rear facing Camera/webcam (5-8 mega pixels)
  • Facetime
  • Increased Performance
  • Improved Battery for extra performance but same battery life
  • Light Peak (USB replacement)
  • Micro SD Card Slot
  • Thinner & Lighter
  • Higher display resolution
  • Bluetooth 3.0
  • Multi carrier chipset supporting CDMA / GSM / UTMS / 4G LTE allowing compatibility with a large number of cell phone carriers

In our opinion the Light Peak feature is a bit of a long shot and if anything we won’t see it until the release of the iPad 3.

March is not far away so we can only wait and see I am hoping all of the above options are included.

Apple Announces iPad 2 Media Event on 2 March 2011

Apple iPad 2 Launch date set for 2 March 2011

Speculation of a 2 March 2011 launch for the iPad 2 can now be laid to rest with Apple sending out to media today with the above graphic, the iPad 2 launch/media event will be held on 2 March 2011 at 10 am PST at the Yerba Buena Center in San Fransisco.

In recent days there was another camp of speculation that the iPad 2 would be delayed by a few months but as we can see from the above inviation graphic this speculation was wrong.

Features that are expected to be included in the iPad 2 include:

  • Dual cameras forward & rear facing Camera/webcam (5-8 mega pixels)
  • Facetime
  • Increased Performance
  • Improved Battery for extra performance but same battery life
  • Light Peak (USB replacement)

Now that the iPad 2 launch date has been set, we all only need to wait a week to find out if the above specifications are correct.

New Apple iPad 2 TV Commercial We Believe Goes Live

The TV Commercial for the Apple iPad 2 has gone live, and the team have to say its quite inspiring, and has similarities to the original Think Different ad for the original iPad. The 31 second long commercial features people using the new iPad 2 for playing video, reading a book as well as showcasing several of iPad applications.

This is happening while the narrator says “This is what we believe: Technology alone is not enough. Faster, thinner, lighter … those are all good things. But when technology gets out of the way, everything becomes more delightful … even magical. That’s when you leap forward. That’s when you end up with something like this,”

iPad 2 Shipping Times Drop to 2-3 Weeks

If you plan to purchase an iPad 2 from the Apple Store online the news is that the iPad 2 shipping delivery date worldwide has dropped down to 2-3 weeks, and this is for all models

Prior to the international release of the iPad 2 Steve Jobs stated that Apple would be trying their upmost to meet consumer demand:

New iPad 2 TV Commercial If you Asked

Just today in the US Apple went live with a new iPad 2 TV Commercial called “if you Asked”, the 31 second TV Commercial shows the viewer what various people would say about the iPad 2 if you asked them to describe it.

The full narration from the TVC is as below:

If you ask a parent, they might call it intuitive.
If you ask a musician, they might call it inspiring.
To a doctor, it’s groundbreaking.
To a CEO it’s powerful.
To a teacher, it’s the future
If you ask a child, she might call it magic.
And if you asked us, we’d say it’s just getting started.

This new commercial has the same narrator as the previous iPad 2 commercial as well as previous iPhone TV commercials, the new apple ipad 2 tv commercial can be viewed below:

iPad 2 Goes on Sale in Australia

iPad 2 goes on Sale in Australia

As early as the Wednesday 23 April Apple fans were starting to line the sidewalk outside the Sydney’s Apple Store to be the first iPad 2 owners in Australia.

As with all new releases and product refreshes from Apple the device was in heavy demand with people lining up at Apple stores around Australia.

In Sydney the first on the wueue was 21 year old Alex Lee who had been waiting outside the Apple Store in Sydney since 12 Midday on Wednesday 23 March.

Lee an IT consultant from Canada living in Sydney was lining up for his second iPad 2 after he purchased his first one in Boston during the initial US Launch.

Lee said “I need to get one for my sister and if I can I’m getting one for a charity auction for Japan tsunami relief,”

“I’m not taking any chances on scalpers taking away my ability to get one for her.”

Lee a self admitted Apple Fanboy admits this is not the first Apple product he has queued up for queuing up for the original iPad at the Apple Store in Dubai, the iPhone 4 in London and the iPhone 3 and iPhone 3Gs at Apple stores in Canada.

iPad 2 Features and Specifications

Now that apple have lifted the lid on the upcoming iPad 2, in its media launch on 2 March we can now reveal the final specifications of the device.

iPad 2 Features and Specifications

Thinner the iPad 2 is 33% thinner than the original at only 0.34” (.863 cm) thick.

Faster – The iPad 2 features a dual core A5 processor as well as a faster graphic processor that is capable of pushing graphics up to 9 times faster than the original model.

10 Hour Battery life – Surprisingly Apple have managed to make the iPad 2 faster with more powerful processors yet it has the same 10 hour battery life.

Cameras – Yes thats right the iPad 2 features 2 cameras that are capable of both still and video, and can be used for Facetime or as a webcam for messenger applications such as Skype or Yahoo chat. Apple have not published any real specification on the iPad 2’s cameras however other websites speculate it a 1 megapixel camera.

iPad 2 Smart Covers – These smart covers are magnetic which magnetically snap onto the iPad 2, in addition when you close the smart cover the iPad 2 instantly goes to sleep to save battery power and then when you open the smart cover the iPad 2 instantly awakens. iPad 2 Smart Covers come in 10 colours

iPad 2 Video Mirroring -  With the purchase of an optional cable you are able to output the screen of your iPad 2 to a TV, Video projector or Monitor, allowing for the iPad 2 to be your one stop shop for presentations on the road.

iPad 2 Possible Launch Date 2 March

iPad 2 Likely to be released on 2 March 2011

AllThingsDigital is reporting that Apple are expected to hold a media event on 2 March for the launch of the iPad, the site also says the event will be held in San Francisco.

This same site also suggests that the event is likely to b held at the Yerba Buena Center for the arts.

Even though AllThingsDigital are expecting the iPad 2 to be launch on 2 March it is highly likely that this date could be for the new MacBook Pro which industry have suggested may be launched on 24 February. Both dates are only days away so we will find out soon in due course.

Other reports out this morning have suggested the release date for the iPad 2 has been pushed back two months; however this has also been debunked by industry gurus and the mostly likely release date will be sooner rather than later both due to iPad shortages as well as a recent iPad price drop.
